There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, I promise you.

It happens. We find ourselves in a big black hole and we have no idea how to get out. That’s okay. It’s hard to see in the friggin’ dark!
But remember, if there’s a way in, there’s a way out. It might not come easy, and you might have to work for it, but it’s there – even if you can’t currently see it!
Often, it’s hard to convince ourselves that “there’s a light at the end of the tunnel”. But, it’s not that the light isn’t there, we just don't know how long the tunnel is, or where it may lead. That uncertainty is what messes with our minds.
When we’re at the beginning of a tunnel, or even at the middle, it doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be able to see the end from where we currently are. But just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there. We can’t see the air that we breathe, either!
Think about this: When we’re driving at night, the car headlamps don't shine light on the entire journey, or even the entire length of the road. They shine light on a few meters ahead of us. And really, that's all we need to see. The road will unfold with every move forward we make. Whatever path we’re on, we just need to be able to take the next step. And from there we can take the next.
Life isn't one big long jump. Okay forget even talking about the span of life! The span of one day, or one hour isn't one big long jump. We can take it one step at a time. Stepping stones. And we can use as many stones as we need, and put them as close to each other as we feel necessary.
And if we don’t currently have the energy to be on our feet, well then we can crawl! The only way to get to the other side of the tunnel is to keep moving. Even if you’re slow. Even if you stumble. Even if you’re afraid. Even if you have no clue where the F you’re going! Just. Keep. Moving. Just keep trying.
I remember someone saying once: “If you’re going through hell, keep going. Why would you want to stay there?!”
I tell my Godchildren this all the time – when you feel like giving up, it’s always when you’re closest to the finish line! Think about it: when we only have one more push-up to do…when we’re busting for the loo and we’re finally right next to it…when we’re climbing to the top of the stairs before seeing an epic view…
The hardest part is that we can’t always see the finish line, so we don’t realise just how damn close we are. But as I said, just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Where there is darkness, there is light. It’s literally a universal truth. Just as there is no strength without weakness, and no night without day, there is no darkness without light, nor no beginning without an end.
Even in the darkest of the night sky, there are always stars. Sometimes there are clouds temporarily blocking our view, or they seem super far away. Sometimes we just forget to look up! But, when we take a moment to spot one, we will find one…and then another…and another. Now, if you’re not even opening your eyes to look for one, how can you expect to find one?
There is a light at the end of the tunnel. But you have to keep going in order to reach it.
And remember this: Just because we can't see in the dark, it doesn't mean we're alone. It may feel as though we are, but like I said – it’s hard to friggin’ see in the dark!
"But, it’s not that the light isn’t there, we just don't know how long the tunnel is, or where it may lead." - that hit me hard! It's so true. This is the scary part.
